Women's Soccer extends non-losing streak to 14 matches

LAURINBURG, NC -- Four different Lady Indians scored as 8th-ranked Catawba defeated host St. Andrews 5-0 in women’s soccer action on Thursday afternoon at Knights Field. Catawba improves to 14-2-1, while the Knights drop to 0-16. Junior forward McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) got the only tally in the first half, coming at the 16:20 mark, putting the Lady Indians on top for good. It marked her tenth game-winning goal of the year. Burman would net a second goal early in the final half for her 20th of the year. Burman’s goal was one of three by the Lady Indians in the opening 11 minutes of the second half. Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD) tally in the 49th minute, Burman added her goal two minutes later and freshman Alyssa Schoenberg (Woodbury, MN) capped the run at 55:59. Lindsay Hinkle (Highland, MD) finished the scoring in with 59 seconds left in the contest, notching her first goal of the season. Senior Stephanie Morey (Ephrata, PA) provided two assists in the second frame while Kelly Fearman (Allison, Ontario, Canada) and Lauren Ebersole (Hagerstown, MD) each added a helper. Goalkeepers Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC) and Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) combined for the shutout without making a save as Catawba out-shot the Knights 25-0. St Andrews netminder Rita Brown (Huntington Beach, CA) made 12 stops. “We played a very clean game today,” stated Catawba Coach John Cullen. “We were under control and passed the ball well. I’m pleased we finished the regular season playing good soccer and hopefully that will carry over into the tournament.” CATAWBA (14-2-1) 1 4 - 5 ST.
