Men's Basketball wins 21st straight at home
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College connected on 14 three-pointers and cruised to a 103-66 win over visiting Claflin in men’s basketball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym. It marked the 21st straight home win for Catawba as the Indians improve to 2-0. Claflin falls to 1-7.Catawba was never threatened, scoring the first 12 points of the game. Halfway through the opening half Catawba had built a 28-9 advantage. The Indians went on to a 52-25 lead at the half behind junior Brian Carter (Alexandria, VA), who scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the opening frame.
The Tribe’s biggest edge came at 84-43 with 8:10 remaining on a laying by sophomore Reggie Proctor (Hampton, VA). Catawba shot 50% for the game and was 14-of-31 from three-point range. Claflin hit just 1-of-12 from long range and just 32% for the game.
Carter led the Tribe for the second straight game, grabbing eight rebounds to go with his 19 points. Sophomore Alex Luyk (Madrid, SPAIN) had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Two others also reached double figures as Terrence Hamilton (Dillon, SC) tossed in 16 points and Kevin Petty (Sanford, NC) had 15 points and six assists. James Shuler (Columbia, SC) led Claflin with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tavarus Mack (Bowman, SC) added 15 points.
