Burman scores twice sending Women's Soccer into Southeast Region Finals

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- McKenzie Burman accounted for all the offense on the night at No. 4 seed Catawba College defeated top-seeded Tusculum College 2-0 Friday night in the opening match of the 2005 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Southeast Regional. The match was played at Friday night on the Tusculum. With the victory, the Lady Indians advance to Sunday's Regional final against the winner between No. 2 Clayton State University and No. 3 Carson-Newman College. This marks the second consecutive season Catawba has advanced to the region final. Tusculum, ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II ends its season at 12-6-2. After playing to a scoreless tie in the regular season meeting between the two schools, the Pioneers and Catawba went scoreless in the opening half. Burman (Rolesville, N.C.) notched her first goal in the 50th minute Carrie Wollaston dumped a pass into a crowd in front of the goal and blasted the ball in the right corner for a 1-0 lead. Burman added her second scoring tally at the 66:12 mark on a breakaway goal on a Kelly Fearman (Allison, Ontario, Canada) assist. Burman, the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, recorded her 22nd and 23rd goals of the season. Catawba keeper Catherine Balentine (Charlotte, N.C.) went the distance recording six saves and posting her fifth shutout of the season. Tusculum's Whitney Wardrop (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) tallied four saves in the loss. - NCAA - Quotes from Catawba head coach John Cullen The focus for us was to stay in our game. Tusculum is a fast starting team and seems to score a majority of its goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. We kept things balanced and we have proven to be good second half team this year. Quotes from Tusculum head coach Mike Joy Soccer is a game of chances and opportunities. McKenzie Burman is always in the right place at the right time and that's why she's SAC Player of the Year. I take my hat off to them. Catawba is a gritty team. Soccer Game Summary (Final) Catawba vs #9 Tusculum (Nov 11, 2005 at Greeneville, Tenn.)
