Men's Basketball reaches 100-point mark again in 101-82 win over Allen
SALISBURY, NC Ė Catawba and Livingstone complete perfect records in menís basketball action at the Salisbury Roundball Classic. Catawba (3-0), ranked 14th in NCAA II, defeated Allen (0-7) 101-82, while Livingstone (2-0) topped Morris (1-3) 92-66 at Goodman Gym on Saturday.
Catawba held Allen to 28% shooting in the second half to pull away from a close game at the half. Catawba scored the first seven points of the second stanza to go up 59-49. Leading 68-58 at the 13:36 mark, the Indians went on a 26-3 run to put the game out of reach at 94-61 with 5:45 left.
Helgi Magunsson (Reykjavik, ICELAND) led five double-figure scorers for the Tribe with 18 points. Jason Diggs (Christiansburg, VA) tossed in a career-high 15 points, while Jolly Manning (Rocky Mount, NC) and Brian Graves
(Newport News, VA) each had 14. Chris Wooldridge (Norfolk, VA) added 1- points and seven rebounds. Graves led the way with eight rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Rodney Washington (Broxton, GA) led Allen with 19 points and Javon Stanford (Providence, RI) had 15. Karega Tucker (Miami, FL) and Nimai Garret (Brooklyn, NY) each had 12 points. Allen connected on seven three-pointers to stay close in the opening half, but were out-rebounded 56-37 for the game and shot just 36% to 49% for Catawba.
Livingstone got 29 points from Santos Martinez (Reading, PA) and 20 from Elzie Bibbs (Lansing, MI) in its win over Morris. Martinez tossed in 19 in the opening half as the Blue Bears took a 48-41 lead. Livingstone used a 19-6 run early in the second half top build a 69-50 edge with 11:39 top go.
Raymond Nelson (Charleston, SC) led Morris with 14 points, while Carlos Gore (Myrtle Beach, SC) added 10. Livingstone shot 52% for the game and made 25-of-35 free throws. Morris was just 8-of-15 at the line and committed 27 turnovers.
