Golf announces three committments for 2006 season
Catawba College golf coach, Sam Gealy, has announced that the golf program has signed three players during the early signing period, two on the women's team and one for the men’s for the fall of 2006.
With the loss of three senior's, including all-everything Paige Haverty, the women's program looks to incoming freshman Kelsey Babos and Hannah Dovbish to make an immediate impact for next fall. Babos, from Uniontown, Ohio, had an outstanding career at Lake High School and has continued to play well in many Ohio Junior Tournaments. She possesses great length should adapt well to the longer college course set ups. Dovbish, currently a senior at Wakefield High School in Raleigh, has a similar game and with an improved short game should be a valuable member of the women's program.
On the men's side, Eric Schmel, from Shamong, New Jersey, is looked to help the program immediately. An excellent student, Schmel has played extensively in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area junior tournaments. His most impressive performance this past summer was winning the Golf Association of Philadelphia Christman Cup at Gulph MIlls CC with rounds of 71-69-140(-2).
