Women's Basketball drops 76-48 decision at NewberryNEWBERRY, SC -- Catawba shot just 29% and was out-rebounded 52-29 in falling to host Newberry 76-48 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena. Newberry improves to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 6-9 and 1-1. The teams battled through a tight first half that saw seven lead changes. A pair of free throws by Hannah Davis with 2:32 left in the half brought Catawba within 24-23, but Newberry closed the half on a 9-3 run to grab a 33-26 edge at the break. Newberry led by six after four minutes of the second half then used an 11-2 run to go up 48-33 with 11:35 remaining. From there Newberry would increase its lead to as much as 30 points. Davis and Tamekia Foster led Catawba with 12 points apiece. Foster pulled down seven boards. Tonique Frasier posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Newberry, while Monica Alexander added 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. #####
