Men's Basketball goes to 10-0 with win over Chowan
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba, ranked 11th in NCAA II, defeated visiting Chowan 84-67 in men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Indians improve to 10-0, while Chowan falls to 3-5.
Catawba trailed by four after eight minutes, but used a 12-0 run over the next five and half minutes to take a 22-14 edge. The Indians went on to lead by a 39-26 count by the half. Chowan was able to get within nine points early in the second half, but Catawba pulled out to a 5840 lead with 12:17 remaining.
The Braves pulled within 61-51 on a three pointer by Gerard Miller (Richmond, VA) with 8:52 left only to see Catawba go on a 21-10 run to ice the issue. Catawba shot 52% for the game and held the Braves to just 36%, blocking 11 shots. The hot shooting held offset a 20-15 deficit in turnovers and a 44-41 deficit on the boards. Chowan pulled down 26 offensive rebounds.
Brian Graves (Newport News, VA) led Catawba with 17 points, while Chris Wooldridge (Norfolk, VA) had 14 points off the bench. Helgi Magnusson (Reykjavik, ICELAND) tallied 13 points and five assists with Jolly Manning adding 11 points. Finnur Magnusson (Reykjavik, ICELAND) pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds.
Chowan was led by Marcus Artis (Suffolk, VA), who tallied 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench for the Braves. Trayvon Lathan (Chesapeake, VA) had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Montino Williams (Hopewell, VA) had 10 points.
