Men's Basketball suffers first defeat at West Georgia
CARROLLTON, GA -- Catawba fell from the ranks of the unbeaten after a 97-78 loss to host West Georgia on Saturday afternoon at the HPE Building. The Indians, ranked 11th in NCAA II fall to 10-1, while West Georgia improves to 7-2.
Catawba suffered its worst shooting performance of the season, hitting just 40% form the field. The Tribe hit on 46% in the final half, but saw the Braves connected on 64% to pull away.
The Indians scored the first five points, but quickly fell behind 22-9 after eight minutes. Catawba managed to cut the deficit back to four just before the half and trailed 38-32 at the break.
West Georgia would build on its lead early in the final half, taking a 61-42 lead with 14:31 remaining. Catawba rallied back within 73-64 with 7:14 remaining, but get no closer.
Antonio Shaw led the Braves with 22 points, while Michael Ford added 21 and Andrius Petkunas tossed in 20. Chris Burris added a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Wooldridge led Catawba with 15 points, with Jason Diggs and Jamel Hamilton added 13 each. Jolly Manning totaled 10 points.
