Seven signees commit early for SoftballSALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College softball coach, Nan Whitley, has announced seven signees for the 2007 season. The student-athletes signing early are Tiffany Farley, of Greensboro, NC, Kristyn Funderburk, of Kings Mountain,NC, Kathryn Geouge, of Canton, NC, Sydney Jones, of Lancaster,PA, Allie Marshall, of Pleasant Garden, NC, Lizzy Milhan of Seminole, FL, and Brittney Thornburg of Kings Mountain, NC. Farley starts for Northwest Guilford High School. She is a two-time all-conference selection and was named All-Piedmont as a junior. Farley has helped the Vikings to a pair of conference titles and to the state final four as a freshman. Funderburke is from Kings Mountain High School and has started three years. She is a three-time all-conference selection and was an all-area pick last year after batting .315 with a 9-1 pitching record a 0.77 ERA. Funderburke helped the Mountaineers to the 2005 3A State Championship and a pair of conference titles. She is a nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Geouge is a three-year starter at Pisgah High School. She is a two-time all-conference performer and was an All-State selection as a junior. Geouge batted .462 last season with 25 RBI and hit .487 for her U16 team. She helped the Bears to a pair of conference titles. Jones attends Lancaster Mennonite High School where she has been a three-year starter. She is a two-time all-conference selection with the Blazers. Jones batted .500 last season, collecting 10 doubles and a triple, while adding nine stolen bases. She competed in China last summer with the Pennsylvania Bells International Travel Team. Marshall is a starter at Southeast Guilford High School. She is a three-time all-conference selection and earned the Gold Glove Award in 2004. Marshall helped the Falcons to a pair of conference titles and was team captain last season. Milhan starts at Seminole High School. She led her team with four home runs last year and batted .415, collecting 27 RBI and was named all-county. Milhan was also the top pitcher for the Warhawks, hurling just over 114 innings with an 11-4 record and a 1.22 ERA, posting 109 strikeouts. Thornburg is a starter at Kings Mountain High School. She was the leading hitter for the 2005 3A State Champions as the Mountaineers went 31-1. Thornburg helped KMHS to a pair of conference titles and also two more in volleyball. #####
