Davis & Evans sweep Baseball Player of the Week awardsROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba designated hitter Jimbo Davis and pitcher Zach Evans have been named the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Davis hit .400 for the week as Catawba took two of three from No.1 ranked Florida Southern. Davis had an RBI in each game and broke the Catawba career record in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader as he now has 168 after the weekend. His RBI groundout in the seventh inning of Sunday’s opener put the Tribe ahead 2-1. Davis had a pair of two-hit games against the defending national champions.
Evans picked up saves in both of Catawba’s wins over top-ranked Florida Southern. The two saves boosted Evans mark to 17 in his career, breaking the old record of 15 which he shared entering the season. Evans tossed a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts in
the opener of the doubleheader. He was also able to work out of a jam in the final inning in game two by striking out the final two batters looking with the tying runs on first and second.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors in the league.
