Intimidators Join Catawba to host SAC Pre-season Baseball TournamentKannapolis, NC – The Kannapolis Intimidators and Catawba College will team up to host the 2006 South Atlantic Conference Preseason Tournament at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, Feb. 24: Wingate vs. Catawba, 6:00
Saturday, Feb. 25: Presbyterian vs. Newberry, 11:00 am, Presbyterian vs. Wingate, 2:30, Catawba vs. Newberry, 6:00
Sunday, Feb. 26: Wingate vs. Newberry, 1:00, Catawba vs. Presbyterian, 4:00
Catawba features several local products, including Salisbury’s Jimbo Davis and Aaron Rimer. Both, North Rowan HS 02’ graduates, Davis is Catawba’s all-time career leader in runs batted in and is nine homeruns shy of the Catawba career record. Rimer was a 2005 NCAA II All-South Region selection.
Other players from the greater Kannapolis community include Ryan Query, a catcher from Kannapolis’ A.L. Brown High School, Salisbury’s Bubba Morris and Kevin McMillan, both North Rowan HS alumni. Also returning home are Paul Link out of Cleveland, NC and West Rowan HS, Huntersville’s Noah Johnson (Mooresville HS), and Blake Ketner who played at Northwest Cabarrus HS.
Ranked #4 in a recent Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA II poll, the Indians are in their 10th season under the direction of Head Coach Jim Gantt. Gantt has compiled a 281-181 career record. Catawba opened the season victorious in two of its first three against then #1 ranked and defending NCAA II National Champion, Florida Southern.
