Women's Basketball falls 94-82 at Mars Hill
MARS HILL, NC -- Mars Hill used a hot shooting tough to knock off visiting Catawba 94-82 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Stanford Arena. The Lady Lions improve to 14-10 overall and 4-7 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 7-17 and 2-9.
Catawba got out of the gates quickly and grabbed a 12-4 lead, but Mars Hill used a 11-2 run midway through the half to grab its first lead at 22-20 with 10:50 to go before the break. The Lady Indians held a 31-30 edge with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half, but saw Mars Hill go on a 17-6 run to close the half for a 47-37 lead.
The Lady Lions would hold a double-digit lead for most of the second half and hit on 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:15 after Catawba cut the lead to 87-80 on a Hillary Hampton (Salisbury, NC) three-pointer. Mars Hill hit on 50% (31-of-62) for the game and was 10-of-19 from long range. The Lady Lions also made 22-of-27 (82%) at the line. Catawba hit on 42% from the floor.
Abby DeBusk led all scorers with 29 for Mars Hill, while Kristi Ferris added 20. Katie Davis scored 17 points and Allison Schafer added 13 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Davis led Catawba with 18 points and seven rebounds with Tamekia Foster added 17 points and seven boards. Freshman Brittany Higgins had 14 points and eight boards.
