Swimming finish 5th at BGMC, Spada breaks 100 free mark
WOOSTER, OH -- Catawba finished in fifth place out of 11 teams at the 2006 Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships. The three-day meet held at Shapiro Natatorium finished on Saturday night. Catawba totaled 290 points with Johns Hopkins winning the meet with a total of 664. Wingate (591), SCAD (565) and Transylvania (428) were ahead of the Lady Indians.
Senior Erin Hyde had the best finish as she swam to all-conference honors in the 200 back. She was fifth in a time of 2:13.16. Leigh Spada set a then school record in the 100 free in a time of 54.80 and finished eighth. She lowered the record in the 400 free with an opening 100 free leg of 54.57. Kira Capano was 15th in the event.
Christin Ofslager had a lifetime best swim of 18:46.57 in the 1650 free and was eighth, while Mollie Landers was 14th in a time of 20:46.85. Two other lifetime bests were also achieved as Margeaux Doiron was ninth in the 200 fly 2:16.72 and Jessie Tartlon 14th in a time of 2:45.94.
