Men's Basketball claims 22nd straight home win
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College improved to 4-0 and won its 22nd straight home game with an 87-66 win over Reinhardt College in men’s basketball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym. Junior Brian Carter (Alexandria, VA) led the way for the Indians with 29 points. The Eagles fell to 4-2. Catawba jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead, but Reinhardt would hang around and would eventually take a 24-22 lead at the 5:23 mark on a three-point basket by Shae Blair (Cleveland, TN). That would be the last points of the half for the Eagles as Catawba closed the half with 13 unanswered points and a 35-24 edge at the break. Reinhardt never got back within single digits the rest of the way.
For Catawba, Kevin Petty (Sanford, NC) followed Carter with 14 points and added six assists. Terrence Hamilton (Dillon, SC) had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Duke Phipps (Newport News, VA) added nine assists. Four starter reached double figures for Reinhardt, led by Sam Allen (Lawrenceville, GA) and Kenny Jemison (Daphne, AL), who each had 15.
Catawba won despite committing 25 turnovers. The Indians shot 50.7% (37-73) and held a 50-29 edge on the boards. Reinhardt shot 44.1% (26-59) and had 23 turnovers.
