Higgins tallies 19 as Women's Basketball rolls over PC
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba freshman Brittany Higgins (Takoma Park, MD) equaled a career-high with 19 points as the Lady Indians defeated visiting Presbyterian 65-38 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. Catawba improves to 9-18 overall and 4-10 in the SAC, while the Lady Blue Hose fall to 21-6 and 10-4.
Catawba took the lead for good at 3-2 on a three-pointer by Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, VA) with 17:56 to go in the opening half. Catawba built the lead to 13 with five minutes to go in the half at 26-13. The Lady Blue Hose shot 30% in the first half and committed 13 turnovers as Catawba held a 29-17 edge at the break.
The Lady Indians’ defense kept PC off the scoreboard for the first six and half minutes of the second half as Catawba rolled to a 41-17 advantage. Catawba pushed the lead to 60-30 in the closing minutes.
Presbyterian made just 20% from the field in the second half and finished at 24.5%, making only 13 of 53 attempts. Catawba made 38% from the field. Senior Hannah Davis (Williamsburg, VA) closed out her home career with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Foster scored a dozen points as well.
Wesley Campbell (Greenville, SC) led Presbyterian with 11 points and added six rebounds. Amy Jones (Warthen, GA) followed with 10 points and six boards.
