Softball drops doubleheader to Lock Haven
SALISBURY, NC -- Lock Haven swept a softball doubleheader from host Catawba on Saturday afternoon at Whitley Field. The Lady Eagles won by the scores of 13-2 and 18-1 to improve to 4-0 on the year. Catawba falls to 5-5.
Lock Haven used its power to roll past the Lady Indians, connecting on 11 home runs in the doubleheader. Danielle Fraser had two in the opener, while Heather Johnson hit three on the day, including two in the second contest. Lock Haven collected 31 hits in the doubleheader to just five for the Lady Indians.
Catawba led 1-0 after an inning of the opener when Cassie Markham (New Port Richey, FL) scored on a wild pitch. Fraser tied it with a homer in the second and Johnson’s home run gave the Lady Eagles a 3-1 lead after three. Lock Haven scored four in the fourth and five in the sixth to break the game open. Jess Hull (Deptford, NJ) had a RBI-single for the Lady Indians in the fifth.
Amanda Mitchell (Huntingtown, MD) had the lone hit for Catawba in the second game as Lock Haven scored three in the first and posted an 11-run frame in the third. Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC) scored the lone Catawba run on an error after reaching base by being hit by a pitch.
