#15 Baseball crushes Anderson 27-3SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College scored 15 runs in the fourth inning en route to a 27-3 baseball win over visiting Anderson College on Tuesday afternoon at Newman Park. The 27 runs ties a school record for most runs in a game. The Indians, ranked #15 in NCAA II, jump to 13-4 on the year. The Trojans fall to 6-14.
Catawba led 5-1 heading into the fourth when Mark Smith (Brown Summit, NC) smacked a two-run double, followed a couple of batters later by Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC) and his three-run homer to make it 11-1. Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) belted a grand slam later in the frame before Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) connected on a two-run blast. At the end of the inning, 10 of the 15 runs scored were unearned.
The Trojans would pick up back-to-back homers from Tony Graham (Abbeville, SC) and Jessie Whiteside (Beaufort, SC) but the Indians would put a three spot up in the sixth inning and four more in the eighth with a Jared Temple (Durham, NC) grand slam.
In the contest, David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) went 3-for-3, Mark Smith 3-for-3 with four RBI, Rimer 3-for-4 with six RBI, Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) 3-for-4 and Temple 2-for-3 with five RBI. Alex Fairweather (Lenoir, NC) tossed six innings while striking out 10 in the win.
