Mitchell belts third homer of season as Softball falls to GC&SUSALISBURY, NC -- Georgia College and State University scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 win over Catawba in softball action at the 2006 Catawba College Invitational Tournament on Friday night at Salisbury Community Park. The Lady Bobcats improve to 14-4, while Catawba falls to 5-6.
Shelbie Lindsey (Waddell, AZ) plated the first run on a run-scoring single to right after a two-out Lady Indian error. Nikki Smith (Evans, GA) followed with a three-run homer to put GC&SU on top 4-0.
Catawba struck right back in the top of the fifth. Jessie Whitesides (Yadkinville, NC) opened the frame by reaching on an error and Amanda Mitchell (Huntingtown, MD) followed by drilling her third home run of the season to left field to cut the margin in half. Catawba would get runners on first and second with two outs in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not get a run home.
Libby Kidd (Duluth, GA) scattered five hits and struck out seven in posting the complete game win. She walked one and allowed just two runs, one earned. Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) allowed six hits with no walks and four strikeouts and surrendered the four unearned runs. Smith and Heather Jones (Evans, GA) both had two hits for the Lady Bobcats.
