Ettinger's one-hitter helps Softball to split with #13 BloomsburgSALISBURY, NC -- Catawba and 13th-ranked Bloomsburg split a doubleheader in softball action on Wednesday afternoon at Whitley Field. Catawba won the opener 1-0, while the Huskies claimed a 5-0 win in game two. The Lady Indians stand at 12-15 on the season, while Bloomsburg is 3-6.Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener and faced the minimum 21 batters. Tiffani Corliss (Lewisburg, PA) broke up the perfect game bid with a leadoff single in the fifth. She was erased on a double play and Ettinger did not allow another runner the rest of the way. The junior fanned five.
The only Catawba run of the game came off the lone walk of the opener. Jessie Whitesides (Yadkinville, NC) walked with one out in the first, was sacrificed to second and scored on Ryann Baker’s (Rockwell, NC) wind-aided single. Sheelin Fisher (Coplay, PA) was the tough-luck loser, tossing six innings and allowing only four hits and striking out six.
In game two, Bloomsburg scored the only run they would need in the first inning. Tara Reed (Williamport, PA) led off with a double, was sacrificed to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Corliss. The Huskies added insurance runs in the later innings on a two-run homer by Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper, PA) in the fifth, Courtney Rhone’s (Bloomsburg, PA) pinch-hit homer in the sixth and a RBI-double by Kristina Tice (Port Jervis, NY) in the seventh.
Ashley Lynn (Riverside, PA) tossed a four-hit shutout to earn the win. She walked one and struck out four. Reed and Krupiewski each had a pair of hits for the Huskies. Baker had two hits for Catawba.
