Offense leads Baseball to 20-3 win over Shippensburg
SALISBURY, NC – Catawba College pounded out two dozen hits en route to a 20-3 win over visiting Shippensburg University on Thursday afternoon at Newman Park. The 10th-ranked Indians jump to 25-5. The Red Raiders fall to 7-10.Shippensburg struck in the first on a sacrifice fly from Jared Boger (Lebanon, PA), but the Tribe responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame as Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) delivered the big blow with a two-run double. Rimer would strike again in the second blasting a three-run shot to right center giving the Indians a 9-1 lead after two.
The Red Raiders would get two more in the third on a Ryan Bucher (Lebanon, PA) two-run HR but that’s as close as Shippensburg would get. Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) would connect on a three-run shot in the fifth to cushion the Tribe lead. Noah Johnson (Huntersville, NC) popped a two-run double with the bases loaded in the eighth to wrap up scoring on the afternoon.
Paul Link (Cleveland, NC) tossed six innings in picking up the win. Bucher went 4-for-5 for the Red Raiders. Matt Smith (Brown Summitt, NC) was 4-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI for Catawba, while Nick Lefko (Faith, NC) enjoyed a 4-for-6 afternoon. Freshman Jerry Sands (Clayotn, NC) extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a RBI-double in the first inning.
