Baseball moves to #4; Thomas grabs Player of Week honor

ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba outfielder David Thomas, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Mars Hill pitcher Nick Tracy have been named the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week.  It was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.  Catawba has moved to 30-6 on the season and have the most wins in NCAA Division II.  The Indians moved up one spot to #4 in this week’s rankings.
Catawba's David Thomas, a former standout at Ledford High School, hit .538 for the week as the fifth-ranked Indians won two of three at Lenoir-Rhyne.  The sophomore had three hits and three RBI in the opening win and added three hits and two RBI in Sunday's series finale.

For the week, Thomas had seven RBI with four runs scored.  The Indian outfielder is hitting .388 on the season with 30 RBI.  Thomas has 13 doubles and six homeruns with a team-leading 16 stolen bases.

Mars Hill junior Nick Tracy threw his second career and consecutive complete game shutout against Presbyterian in the opening game of the series on Saturday.  The Lions' pitcher scattered four hits and struck out four Blue Hose batters while not walking a single batter. Tracy is 5-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.

The SAC player and pitcher of the week are selected by the conference's eight sports information directors.
