Softball sweeps SAC opening DH from PresbyterianSALISBURY, NC – Catawba College opened up South Atlantic Conference softball play with a sweep of Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon at Whitley Field. The Lady Indians won by the scores of 3-2 and 6-1. Catawba improves to 16-15 overall, 2-0 in the SAC. The Lady Blue Hose fall to 16-23 and 0-2.
Trailing 1-0 in the opener, Catawba evened things up with Jenn Mehl’s (West Creek, NJ) RBI-double in the second. Hillary Hampton’s (Salisbury, NC) RBI base hit in the third gave the Lady Indians a 2-1 lead. PC responded in the sixth with a solo-HR from Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH), but Jacqueline White (Mt. Ulla, NC) smacked a solo blast in the bottom of the sixth giving Catawba the 3-2 win.
Game two saw the Lady Indians jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first off of Ryann Baker’s (Rockwell, NC) two-run double. Catawba would put up a pair of runs in the third and fourth sending the Tribe advantage to 6-0. Baker and Hampton picked up the RBI in the third while White and Mehl hit solo shots for Catawba in the fourth. PC’s lone run of the game came in the sixth on a solo-HR from Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, FL).
Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) tossed all 14 innings picking allowing a total of three runs while striking out 11. Samantha Slater (Westerville, OH) went the distance in game one for Presbyterian and did not get out of the fourth inning of game two suffering the pair of losses.
