Davis named SAC Baseball Player of the WeekROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba designated hitter Jimbo Davis and Tusculum pitcher Bandon Dickson have been named the South Atlantic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 10. It was announced by the league office on Monday.
Catawba’s Jimbo Davis hit .615 for the week as the No. 4 Indians kept its league lead and won four of five games. The senior belted five home runs, including three in the second game of a doubleheader at Barton that allowed him to become the school’s all-time leader. Davis now has 48 homeruns in his career. In the opener against Carson-Newman, it was Davis’ home run that gave the Tribe a 10-9 lead after trailing 7-1 early in the game. Davis also had two doubles in Sunday’s win that kept the Indians atop the league standings. For the season, Davis has raised his average to .326 and has 11 home runs and 47 RBI.
Tusculum pitcher Brandon Dickson made three relief appearances during the week. The junior went 1-0 and did not allow an earned run in his seven combined innings of work. The Pioneers went 6-0 during the week, including a three-game sweep of Wingate. In the series finale against Wingate, Dickson went 3.2 innings, allowed a hit, an unearned run and struck out three to improve to 4-2 on the season. The SAC Players of the Week are selected by a vote of the eight sports information directors in the league. #####
