Van Hoever named Deep South Lacrosse Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC - Catawba College attack man Mark Van Hoever and Limestone College goalie Marty Ward have been named the Deep South Conference offensive and defensive Players of the Week. It was announced by the league office on Monday.
Van Hoever, a freshman from Pleasant Garden, N.C. (SE Guilford HS), helped snap Catawba's eight-game losing streak with a five-goal, six-assist performance against Presbyterian. His six assists tied a school record. His first goal of the opening quarter gave Catawba a 4-3 lead after an early 3-1 deficit. He had one goal and one assist against Belmont Abbey, giving him six goals and seven assists on the week. He also had seven ground balls in the two matches.
Ward, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y. (Corcoran), had 27 saves in a pair of big wins for the Saints. He had 16 saves in a one-goal decision over St. Andrews. He then had 11 saves and allowed just five goals in Limestone's 13-5 over 10th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit.
