Volleyball adds three for 2002 season

Catawba College volleyball coach, Ginger Ashley, has announced the signing of three players for the 2002 season. Of the newcomers, two are freshmen and one is a transfer. The two freshmen are Nicole Scheidt, of China Grove, NC, and Summer Zuck, of Kingston, TN, while Crissi Harrison, of Hickory, NC, is a sophomore transfer from Western Carolina.Scheidt is a 5-8, setter from First Assembly Christian and helped the Eagles to a second place finish in the National Christian School Tournament, where she was voted the Most Valuable Setter. During her career, she helped First Assembly to a state championship and was a two-time All-State and all-conference performer. Zuck, a 5-10, hitter from Oak Ridge High School, was a two-time all-district selection. She helped the Lady Wildcats to a pair of runner-up district finishes during her career. In 2001, Zuck recorded 168 kills and 237 digs. Harrison, a 5-10 hitter from Fred T. Foard High School joins two fellow high school teammates, Elizabeth Hewitt and Hope Miller, at Catawba. She did not play this past season at Western Carolina due to shoulder surgery. Catawba College lost just two reserves from last seasonís squad that went 15-14 and won the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship. The win gave the Lady Indians a bid to the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament, the first NCAA II post-season appearance for the SAC in volleyball. The SAC is a NCAA II conference, comprising eight schools in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. #######
