Softball eliminated by Tusculum at SAC Tournament

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba was eliminated from the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament on Friday afternoon at Salisbury Community Park with a 7-5 loss to Tusculum. The Pioneers improve to 17-31-2, while Catawba ends its season a 28-23.Tusculum built a 7-1 lead and held on despite a four-run seventh for the Lady Indians. Jennifer Doering (Las Vegas, NV) delivered a two-out, tow-run single in the first to stake the Pioneers to an early lead. Tusculum extended the advantage to 5-0 with a RBI-single by Lisette Vital (Santa Fe Springs, CA) in the fourth and run-scoring singles by Jenica Fernandez (Phoenix, AZ) and Jess Greer (Rogersville, TN) in the fifth, all with two outs.

Jacqueline White (Mt. Ulla, NC) had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to put Catawba on the board, but Tusculum struck right back on a hit by Greer and a groundout by Vital for the 7-1 edge. Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC) singled home two runs for Catawba in the seventh and scored on a single by Hillary Hampton (Salisbury, NC), but White grounded out to end the game.

Five players enjoyed two hit performances in the 13-hit Pioneer attack. Doering, Greer and Vital each had two RBI. Megan Dubois (Chino, CA) improved to 7-6 was she allowed just two earned runs off seven hits over six innings. Baker and Cassie Markham (New Port Richey, FL) each collected two hits in the loss for Catawba.
