Volleyball loses two tight matches at AASU Tournament
SAVANNAH, GA – Catawba dropped a pair of games on Friday afternoon at the Chatham Orthopedics Pirate Volleyball Classic being hosted by Armstrong Atlantic.
Catawba fell in three games to both Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and to USC-Aiken. Catawba drops to 1-5 on the season and will play two more matches on Saturday. Catawba hung tough with PR-Rio Piedras in its first match, losing the first two games each by the count of 30-27. Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC) led Catawba with 12 kills and three blocks.
Amanda Nantz (Troutman, NC) had seven kills, while freshman Mai Zoua Lo (Hickory, NC) had six kills, a dozen digs and an ace. PR-RP won the final game by the score of 30-19. USC-Aiken was able to record a 30-26, 30-25 and 30-28 win over the Lady Indians.
Powers again led the way with 16 kills, while Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA) had 11 kills and 15 digs. Missy Bartholomew (New Carlisle, IN) had 24 digs and Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC) recorded 35 assists. #####
