Lo, Powers helps Volleyball earn win at AASU Classic
SAVANNAH, GA – Catawba College split a pair of volleyball matches on Saturday at the Chatham Orthopedic Pirate Volleyball Classic hosted by Armstrong Atlantic University.
Catawba now stands at 2-6 on the season. Catawba picked up its win in a morning match against UNC-Pembroke, winning in four games by the scores of 28-30, 30-25, 30-25 and 30-25. Freshman Mai Zoua Lo (Hickory, NC) posted 16 kills, with 23 digs and two blocks to pace the ladies. Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC) also added 16 kills with three blocks. Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA) added 14 kills, 21 digs and three blocks, while Amanda Nantz (Troutman, NC) had six blocks and Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC) chipped in with five kills, 16 digs and 50 assists. Catawba dropped a close three-game decision to Tampa in its final game, falling 25-30, 25-30 and 20-30. Powers posted eight kills, while Henderson had four kills, three aces and 20 assists. Missy Bartholomew (New Carlisle, IN) led the team in kills in both matches with 29 against Pembroke and 13 vs. Tampa. #####
