Women's Basketball done in by 36 turnovers in loss to West Georgia

MORROW, GA -- Catawba College suffered through 36 turnovers and fell to West Georgia 71-59 in women's basketball action in the opening round of the Arrowhead Clinic Classic at Clayton State College and University on Friday afternoon. The loss snapped a six-game win streak for Catawba, dropping the Lady Indians to 7-2. West Georgia improved to 7-2 with the win. Catawba built a 10-point lead at 22-12 midway through the opening half and led 32-25 at the break. Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) paced the Lady Indians in the opening half with 10 point and six rebounds. West Georgia managed just 25% shooting in the opening half, but did record 12 offensive rebounds. Catawba was not able to increase its lead in the second half, but did hold the advantage until a three- pointer by Erin McCain tied the score at 38-38 with 13:02 left. Catawba kept the game close the rest of the way despite committing 22 of its 36 turnovers after the break. The Lady Indians trailed just 64-58 with 1:25 left, but could not capitalize on three straight West Georgia turnovers. Fifteen of the Braves final 19 points came at the free throw line. Locklear and Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) each had 17 points for Catawba, while Locklear added eight rebounds. Four West Georgia players reached double figures, led by Anika McCoy, who had 16. Electra Johnson had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. #######
