Powers named SAC Volleyball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba sophomore Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player-of-the-Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.
The former North Moore High School standout helped Catawba to a pair of wins with no losses during the week. A middle blocker, Powers averaged six kills per contest in the two victories last week which came over league rivals Carson-Newman and Tusculum. The sophomore posted a career-high 27 kills in the four-game victory over Tusculum and then followed that up by procuring 15 kills in a victory over Carson-Newman. Powers acquired seven blocks in the win over Tusculum and added four more in the win over the Eagles to average 1.6 blocks per outing.
For the week, Powers had a hitting percentage of .355. The SAC Volleyball Players of the Week are chosen by a vote of the league’s sports information directors. #####
