Powers and Griffith pace Volleyball to win at NC Central

DURHAM, NC -- Catawba knocked off host N.C. Central in a five-set marathon in volleyball action on Wednesday night at McLendon-McDougald Gym.

The Catawba Indians won by the scores of 29-31, 31-29, 36-34, 28-30 and 15-7 for its fifth straight victory. Catawba improves to 10-8, while the Eagles fall to 20-8 and ending a 16-match winning streak over NCAA II opponents. Catawba got 21 kills and seven blocks from Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC), while Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA) added 20 kills, five blocks and 21 digs in the win.

Those numbers help offset a school-record 42 kills from NCCU’s Shari Matthews.
