Men's Soccer comes up a goal short at #25 Presbyterian
CLINTON, SC -- Matt Curtis’ first goal of the season lifted NCAA II 25th-ranked Presbyterian to a 2-1 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on a rainy Saturday evening at Martin Stadium.
The Blue Hose improve to 8-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 8-6 and 2-4. In a hotly contested match, all three goals in the game were scored in the opening half. With the game square at 1-1, Curtis placed the game-winner past Indians goalkeeper Tyler Held in the 42nd minute. Catawba scored the game’s first goal at the 9:42 mark when Chris Davis scored off a corner kick by Ryan Villiard. Davis slotted the ball off the left post and into the back of the next to thwart PC starting goalkeeper Mark Owens shutout streak at two games.
Tommy Rodriquez would tally the equalizer in the 24th minute. He used a brilliant flick by Jonathan Anderson in the middle of the field just beyond the 18-yard box to knot the game at 1-1. PC played the final 39 minutes of the game with 10 men on the field after Brandon Tucker commandeered his second yellow card of the game. Owens recorded eight saves for PC.
