Women's Soccer falls at PC on late goal
CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian got a late goal by Claire Joyce (Aiken, SC) and knocked off 22nd-ranked Catawba 2-1 on Saturday night at Martin Stadium. The Lady Blue Hose improve to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the SAC, while Catawba falls to 10-4-3 and 3-2-2.
On the winning goal, Joyce brought the ball in from about 40 yards out and once inside the penalty box, she struck a shot to the far upper corner for the game-winner. After taking the 2-1 lead, the Blue Hose played solid withheld a late challenge by Catawba. Erin Sinkuler (Roswell, GA) stopping a point blank shot by McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) just 39 seconds after Presbyterian reclaimed its lead. The Blue Hose struck first as sophomore Lytle Cannon (Spartanburg, SC) found the back of the net in the second minute after collecting a Catawba goal kick. Catawba knotted the game at 1-1 in the 38th minute as Lauren Ebersole (Hagerstown, MD) let a shot fly from just outside the box that hopped over Sinkuler’s hands.
“I thought we played very well,” stated Catawba Coach John Cullen.
“We passed the ball extremely good tonight. It was good goals to win a game between two good teams.”
