Griffith's double-double helps Volleyball to win at TusculumGREENEVILLE, TN -- Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, VA) recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 24 digs to lead Catawba College to a 3-0 win over host Tusculum College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Alpine Arena. The Catawba Indians improve to 16-11 overall and 10-3 in the SAC, taking the match by the scores of 30-19, 30-26 and 30-23. Tusculum has its four-matching winning streak halted as the Pioneers fall to 20-9 and 8-5.
Catawba's Melissa Powers (Bennett, NC) added 10 kills, while setter Andi Henderson (Swansboro, NC) dished out 47 assists in the victory. Tusculum's Vanessa Fortes' tallied 10 kills, while Alexis Rowles added 23 digs in the loss. Stacey Ray added 29 assists, while Sonya Hunt recorded two service aces.
Friday's match was designated as Dig For the Cure Night as both raised funds and awareness for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Both Tusculum and Catawba tallied over $1,700 for this worthy cause. Final totals will be announced early next week.
