Bartlett records double-double in Women's Basketball exhibition vs. High Point
HIGH POINT, NC – Catawba College put up a hard-fought effort, but fell to High Point 70-56 in a women’s basketball exhibition game on Monday night at the Mills Center. The Panthers, who lost in overtime in last year’s Big South Tournament final, made seven-of-eight free throws in the final 1:26 to hold off a late Catawba charge.
The Lady Indians trailed 34-22 at the break after scoring the final seven points of the half. Catawba continued its rally early in the second half and trimmed the deficit to 35-30 on a basket by Ne’Keithia Howard with 16:59 remaining. Candyce Sellers stepped up for High Points and connected on a jumper and two three-pointers to extend the Panther edge to 45-32 with 14:09 left.
A three-pointer by Ayonna Thompson with 11:06 to play pushed the High Point margin to 55-33. It was one of 10 three-pointer canned by the Panthers in 17 tries, while Catawba was just one-for-nine from beyond the experimental arc. Thompson would hit the Panthers final three of the night at the 8:55 mark to make the score 58-38.
Catawba would begin to get back in the game from there. Sicilia LoSauro connected on a jumper and two free throws each by Cristi Bartlett and Cameron Clark trimmed the lead to 58-44 with 5:51 to go. A jumper by Bartlett was followed by a jumper and two free throws from LoSauro to cut the deficit to 58-50 with 4:08 remaining. LoSauro would bring Catawba within 60-53 on a three-pointer with 3:29 left, but Catawba failed to score on two possessions down by eight before High Point began to cash in at the line.
Bartlett led Catawba with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. LoSauro added 13 points with Howard scoring nine points and grabbing seven boards. The Lady Indians held their own on the boards, being out-rebounded just 45-40 and had 22 turnovers to 21 for the Panthers. Leslie Cook had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead High Point, connecting on four-of-six from long range. Katie Ralls added 13 points, going 9-of-12 at the line with Sellers hitting for a dozen points.
