Foster and LoSauro lift Women's Basketball to win over Augusta St.
AUGUSTA, GA -- Catawba picked up its first win of the season with a 76-68 victory over host Augusta State in women’s basketball action at Christenberry Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Catawba evens its record at 1-1, while Augusta State also moves to 1-1.
Junior Sicilia LoSauro (Oviedo, FL) scored 18 points to pace the ladies, connecting on 7-of-10 shots, including 3-of-4 from long range. Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, VA) added 16 points for Catawba,w ho held a 41-37 edge on the boards and shot 45%.
Catawba built a 14-point lead with eight minutes to play and had to hold off a late charge by the Jaguars. Augusta State pulled within 67-65 on a three-point play by Shirrell Ford with 2:10 to go, but Catawba answered with baskets by Foster and Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC), who scored a dozen points off the bench, to take a 71-65 edge.
Foster added a three-point play with 28 seconds left and two free throws with nine ticks remaining to keep Catawba on top. The Lady Indians canned 19-of-27 at the line and had just 16 turnovers compared to 18 for ASU.
Catawba pulled out to a 12-point lead following a Clark three-pointer at the 11:17 mark of the first half and pushed the lead to 28-13 with 8:54 to go. Augusta whittled the deficit to six by the break and tied the game at 46-46 five minutes into the second half. Catawba then scored 10 straight points to retake control.
Jasmine Godwin had 14 points to lead the Jaquars, while Ford had 12 points and seven rebounds. Corin Muldrow (Jacksonville, NC) also reached double figures for Catawba with 11 points off the bench.
