After two free throws by freshman Stephanie Valentine (Charlotte, NC) put the Lady Indians up 31-23 with 3:56 to go in the first half, the Pioneers went on a 15-0 run to lead 38-31 at the break. With Catawba inside players Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) and Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) on the bench with foul trouble, Tusculum got 12 points came from its post players, with junior Candice Combs (Clayton, N.C.) contributing eight and junior Whitley Campbell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) three. Combs posted 14 of her season-high 20 points in the first half. Tusculum managed to hold their halftime lead until a steal and layup by senior Ella Pasola (Vantaa, FINLAND) put the Lady Indians up 49-48 with 10:40 to play. Little gave Catawba its largest lead of the second half at 62-54 with 4:22 remaining. Having been held to just four points in the first 36 minutes, New exploded for eight points down the stretch, including two three pointers which eventually tied the game 66-66. However, Morancie's 11th point of the night made the final margin 67-66. Combs and Catawba sophomore Danyel Locklear shared game-high honors with 20 points. Campbell pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds for the Pioneers, helping them win the battle of the boards 48-40.
