Women's Basketball cruises to 73-39 win over Brevard
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba shot 51% and cruised to a 73-39 win over visiting Brevard in women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians improve to 11-2 overall, while the Tornado fall to 2-13.
Junior Hillary Hampton (Salisbury, NC) led a balanced Catawba attack with 14 points, hitting on 5-of-6 field goals, including a perfect 4-of-4 on three-pointers. Brittany Higgins (Takoma Park, MD) added nine points, while Salita Childs (Ruther Glen, VA) tossed in a career-best eight points. Megan Russell (Speedwell, TN) and Lindsay Thrift (Asheboro, NC) each had 10 points for Brevard.
Higgins scored the first seven points as Catawba jumped to an 11-0 lead and never looked back in grabbing its third straight win. Leading 18-9, the Lady Indians used an 8-0 run to go on top 26-9 with 7:28 left in the opening half.
Catawba had one final surge before the half as Sicilia LoSauro (Oviedo, FL) hit one three-pointer and Hampton followed with two more for a 44-20 edge. The Lady Indians scored the final nine points of the half for a 50-20 lead at the break. The Lady Indians would lead by as many as 40 points in the final half.
Brevard committed 30 turnovers in the loss with 21 coming in the opening half. The Tornado shot just 26.5%. The Lady Indians connected on 58% in the first half and held a 41-29 edge on the boards.
