McKinzie Named SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Julia McKinzie of Catawba College has been named this season’s first South Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. It was announced by league officials Tuesday.
McKinzie, a 5-6 junior from Austin, Texas, was victorious in her two singles and two doubles matches to help the Lady Indians to a pair of wins over North Greenville (5-4) and St. Andrews (8-1). She rallied from a set down to defeat NGU’s Cherie Curtis 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. She followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kellie Milam of St. Andrews.
In doubles, McKinzie, a former standout at Lake Travis High School, and No. 2 doubles partner Andi Binney posted an important 8-3 win over NGU. The Catawba duo also won their doubles outing against St. Andrews.
The SAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
