Query Delivers Six RBI as Baseball Pounds Barton 21-5
WILSON, NC -- Catawba exploded for a 21-5 win over host Barton in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Nixon Field. The 20th-ranked Catawba Indians pounded out 22 hits in improving to 6-4. The Bulldogs fell to 2-7.
Ryan Query (Kannapolis, NC) picked up the first of his six RBI in the first inning with a groundout and the Tribe never looked back. Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) added a RBI single and Catawba led 2-0 after an inning. Query had a RBI single in the second as the Tribe moved out to a 5-0 lead.
Catawba built its lead to 11-0 after three innings. Matt Kepley (Greensboro, NC) connected on a three-run homer in the five-run third inning. Barton struck for three runs in its third, but Catawba put up an eight-spot in the fourth to break the game wide open. Query highlighted the inning with a grand slam.
Query finished the game with two hits and six RBI. Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC) and Brian Sommer (New Port Richey, FL) each had three hits and two RBI. Bubba Morris (Salisbury, NC) had two hits and two RBI and Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC) had two hits and scored three runs.
