Fairweather Pitches Baseball to Win Over Carson-Newman
Sophomore allows one unearned run in seven innings
Catawba picked up a pair of unearned runs in the second and Carson-Newman picked up an unearned run of their own in the third. The Tribe answered right back in their third on a RBI triple by Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC) and a RBI double by Ryan Query (Kannapolis, NC).
Leading 4-1 in the sixth, Fairweather worked out of trouble as the Eagles put runners on second and third with no outs, but could not score. Catawba picked up a run in its sixth on a run-scoring single by Kevin McMillan (Salisbury, NC) and broke the game open with four runs in the eighth.
Fairweather scattered just five hits and allowed the one unearned run in his seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter as he improved to 2-1. Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) led the Tribe batters, going 3-for-4.
