Softball Falls Twice at Augusta

White delivers three RBI in the two games

AUGUSTA, GA -- Augusta State swept a doubleheader from visiting Catawba in softball action on Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field.  ASU won by the scores of 6-2 and 8-2.  The Jaguars improve to 6-4, while the Catawba Indians fall to 9-3.

In the first game, the Jags jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning.  The Lady Indians rallied as Jacqueline White drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and hit a solo homer in the sixth to tie the score.

A pair of errors in the ASU sixth by Catawba led to four unearned runs to give the Jaguars the win.  Anna Tedder put Augusta ahead with a two-run single.  Amy Dumas tossed a two-hit shutout while striking out 13.  Callie Gordy had the other Catawba hit.

In the second game, Ashley Roberts keyed a four-run first for ASU with a two-run single.  Allie Marshall drove home Jessie Whitesides for Catawba in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1, but the Jaguars added three runs in their fifth to go up 8-1.  White added a RBI double for Catawba in the seventh.

Tedder went 4-for-4 in the nightcap with a double and two RBI.  Tedder also had two hits in the opener, while Paige Phillips and Jessica Matta had two hits in each game.
