Houston Tabbed as SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba College’s Antonio Houston was named South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week. It was announced by league officials on Monday. Houston, a freshman guard from Charlotte, N.C., averaged 19.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in leading Catawba to a 3-0 week and a share of first place in the league with Presbyterian.
The East Mecklenburg High School graduate started the week with 15 points in Catawba’s 83-64 victory at Mars Hill Monday before adding 21 points versus Lincoln Memorial at home Wednesday (an 89-67 win). Houston finished the week with his second straight 21-point performance at Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday as Catawba snapped L-R’s 21-game home winning streak versus SAC Regular Season opponents with an 81-73 victory.
Houston, who leads the squad in scoring this year (15.8 ppg), also shot 50 percent (eight-for-16) from behind the three-point line and 79 percent (11-for-14) from the charity stripe. Catawba has also won a season-high seven straight games.
The SAC Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week is voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors.
