Softball Finishes With 2-2 Mark at Catawba Invitational
SALISBURY, NC – Catawba picked up one win in three games on Saturday in the Catawba Invitational Softball Tournament. The ladies claimed a 3-1 win over North Georgia, but fell 3-1 to Georgia C&SU and 6-2 to Indianapolis on Saturday night.
Against North Georgia at Whitley Field, Kathleen Greenhalgh’s (Gresham, OR) pinch-hit single in the fourth put Catawba ahead 2-1. Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC) drew a bases loaded walk later in the frame for the 3-1 edge.
Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) earned the win in relief. She was perfect in her two and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Jessie Whitesides (Yadkinville, NC) had two hits.
Catawba battled with #6 Georgia C&SU at Salisbury Community Park. GC&SU held a 2-0 lead in the sixth when Sarah VanBuskirk (Lutz, FL) cut the deficit in half with a two-out RBI double. The Bobcats tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Allie Marshall (Pleasant Garden, NC) had a pair of hits for Catawba.
Against Indianapolis at Community Park, Catawba fell behind 5-0 after three innings. The Lady Indians fought back in the fourth, getting a run-scoring double from Brittany Thornburg (Kings Mountain, NC) and a bases-loaded single by Kathryn Geouge (Canton, NC) with two outs. Whitesides followed with a line out to right to end the frame. Callie Gordy (Oak Ridge, NC) had two hits.
