Link collects four RBI in 11-3 victory

AIKEN, SC -- Catawba claimed its second straight win over #12 USC-Aiken, downing the Pacers 11-3 on Wednesday night at Hernandez Stadium.  It marked the fifth straight win for the Catawba Indians, who improve to 14-8.  The Pacers fall to 14-5.

Catawba jumped on USC-Aiken in the opening frame, scoring five runs.  David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) led off with a double and would score on a wild pitch.  Ryan Query (Kannapolis, NC) singled home a run, but Zeb Link (Salisbury, NC) delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double with two outs.

Link collected another RBI in the third, while the Tribe added three more runs in the sixth to go on top 9-0.  Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC) led off the frame with a homer and Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC) added a RBI double.

Tim Smith grabbed the win for Catawba, tossing his pre-determined three innings and allowing just one hit.  The Pacers scored an unearned run in the sixth off Alex Fairweather (Lenoir, NC), who surrendered two hits and struck out a trio of batters in his three innings of work.

Travis McSweeney (Palm Harbor, FL) tossed the final three innings to earn the save.  He allowed three hits and a pair of unearned runs in the ninth.  Link had two hits and four RBI for the Tribe, while Hatley led the 16-hit attack with three hits.
