16-Hit Attack Leads Baseball to Win at Aiken
Link collects four RBI in 11-3 victory
AIKEN, SC -- Catawba claimed its second straight win over #12 USC-Aiken, downing the Pacers 11-3 on Wednesday night at Hernandez Stadium. It marked the fifth straight win for the Catawba Indians, who improve to 14-8. The Pacers fall to 14-5.
Catawba jumped on USC-Aiken in the opening frame, scoring five runs. David Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC) led off with a double and would score on a wild pitch. Ryan Query (Kannapolis, NC) singled home a run, but Zeb Link (Salisbury, NC) delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double with two outs.
Link collected another RBI in the third, while the Tribe added three more runs in the sixth to go on top 9-0. Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC) led off the frame with a homer and Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC) added a RBI double.
Tim Smith grabbed the win for Catawba, tossing his pre-determined three innings and allowing just one hit. The Pacers scored an unearned run in the sixth off Alex Fairweather (Lenoir, NC), who surrendered two hits and struck out a trio of batters in his three innings of work.
Travis McSweeney (Palm Harbor, FL) tossed the final three innings to earn the save. He allowed three hits and a pair of unearned runs in the ninth. Link had two hits and four RBI for the Tribe, while Hatley led the 16-hit attack with three hits.
