Baseball Blasts St. Andrews 21-0 Behind 26-Hit Attack
Morris collected career-best six RBI
LAURINBURG, NC -- Catawba pounded out 26 hits en route to a 21-0 shutout of host St. Andrews in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Clark Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 19-12, while the Knights fall to 12-20.
Four players for the Tribe collected three hits, while Bubba Morris (Spencer, NC) and Chad Baker (Jamestown, NC) combined for 10 RBI. Morris got things started in the second inning, delivering the first of his career-high six RBI on a bases-loaded walk. Catawba erupted for seven runs in the third and cruised from there.
Ryan Query (Kannapolis, NC) tripled to leadoff the third and scored on a single by Jerry Sands (Clayton, NC). Brian Sommer (New Port Richey, FL) added a two-run double, Morris knocked in a run with a groundout, Baker doubled home another and Query ended the outburst with a RBI groundout.
Those runs were more than enough for Matt Seabolt (Asheboro, NC). The junior made a rare start and scattered five hits over six innings to improve to 2-1. He got relief help from Brett Hatley (Salisbury, NC), who allowed just one hit over two innings with four strikeouts, and Cliff Poole (Greensboro, NC), who tossed a perfect ninth frame.
Catawba scored in seven of the nine innings. Zach Evans, who joined Baker, Morris and Matt Kepley (Greensboro, NC) with three hits, had a two-run homer in the fourth, while Morris and Craig Lyerly (Salisbury, NC) drew walks to force in runs in the fifth. Morris added a two-run double in the eighth and a RBI-single in the ninth.
