White Named SAC Softball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, SC --  Catawba College first baseman Jacqueline White was chosen as the league’s Player of the Week and Presbyterian College’s Paige Cassady was dubbed the South Atlantic Conference’s Pitcher of the Week.  It was announced by the conference office on Monday.

Catawba’s White hit .615 for the Indians last week, collecting hits in all four of Catawba’s games last week. The Mt. Ulla, N.C. native also acquired eight RBIs in Catawba’s 3-1 week.  White began her week by hitting a two-out double to tally the decisive hit in Catawba’s second game victory over Newberry on March 28.

The West Rowan High School product secured three hits in each game of a doubleheader with Tusculum last Saturday. She picked up seven of her RBIs in the twinbill, acquiring three doubles and a home run in the two games.  White now has 45 RBIs on the season, concluding the week with an overall batting average of .309.

Cassady led PC to both of its win last week, keeping the Lady Blue Hose in a three-way tie for first place in the SAC with Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman. The Orlando, Fla. native pitched two complete game shutouts for the Lady Blue Hose in league wins over Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne.

Cassady allowed just four hits in the two games, holding the opposing batters to two hits in each game. She also fanned 11 batters, striking out six in a 3-0 game one win over Wingate on Wednesday, March 28 and then following that up by fanning five in a 2-0 game one victory over No. 10 Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, March 31.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the league's Sports Information Directors.
