Baseball sweeps St. Augustine's

RALEIGH, NC -- Catawba College swept a baseball doubleheader from host St. Augustine's on Monday afternoon. The Indians won by the scores of 13-0 and 12-2 in improving to 3-2 overall. In the opener, the Tribe got three RBI each from Chad Hill, Isreal Morrow and Brian Hatley in the rout. Catawba started the scoring in the third, getting a RBI double from Blair Reynolds and a RBI single by Hill. The two runs were more than enough for starter Zach Snyder. The sophomore evened his record at 1-1 by allowing just a leadoff single and a walk in five innings of work. He had six strikeouts. Hill had a two-run triple to highlight a four-run fourth and Catawba padded the lead in the seventh with a two-run triple by Morrow and a two-run single by Hatley. Hill was 3-for-5, while Morrow went 2-for-4. Curt Motsinger collected three hits and drove in three to pace the offense in the second game. Spence Southard added two hits, including a triple. Freshman Matt Fairweather tossed a complete game to grab his first win. Over the five innings, he allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, while walking one and strikeing out two. Catawba put the game away in the second inning, scoring seven times. Mike Robbins opened the flood gates with a bases-loaded walk, while Southard singles home a run and Reynolds doubled home another. Motsinger capped a four-run fifth with a two-run single. St. Augustine's finally got on the board in the final inning. Michael Swann had a run-scoring single with two outs for the first run. #######
