Women's Basketball continues its woes at Presbyterian with 69-49 loss

CLINTON, SC -- The Catawba women's basketball continued its futility at Presbyterian's Templeton Center, falling 69-49 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night. The loss was the 12th in 13 tries in Clinton, SC, for the Lady Indians, who fall to 19-6 overall and 9-4 in the SAC. Presbyterian improves to 18-7 and 9-4. The loss will also likely drop Catawba to the third seed in the upcoming tournament as Presbyterian now holds the tie-breaker by sweeping the season series. In a game where points were at a premium, the Lady Indians shot just 36%, made just 9-of-20 free throws and committed 24 turnovers. Ella Pasola (Vantaa, FINLAND) broke the scoring ice with a three-point play at the 17:25 mark to give Catawba a 3-0 lead. The teams battled tightly for much of the half before an 11-3 run by Presbyterian gave the hosts a 27-22 lead with 5:08 remaining in the half. The Lady Blue Hose would take a 36-30 lead to the break. The second half was all Presbyterian as Catawba shot just 28% and made 1-of-8 free throws. The Lady Indians scored just five points over the first 11 minutes of the final half and saw Presbyterian take a commanding 54-35 lead. The close as Catawba could get from there was 15 at 60-45 with 3:50 to play. Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) was the only Lady Indian to reach double figures as the sophomore posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC), Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) and Pasola each added eight points, while Little grabbed nine rebounds. Bonnie Werner scored 17 to lead Presbyterian, while Ja'net Vicks added 14. #####
