Men's Soccer Takes Shutout Win at Charleston
Ketner scores first career goal
CHARLESTON,WV – Catawba earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout of host Charleston in men’s soccer action on Friday night. The Catawba Indians even their record at 1-1, while the Eagles fall to 0-3.
Senior Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS) put the Tribe on the board in the first half, scoring off a feed from David Bloom (Marietta, GA/Lassiter HS). The Indians would hold that lead at the break.
With Catawba still ahead by a goal, Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) made a nice save in the 75th minute to preserve the lead. Senior Sam Ketner (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) iced the game minutes later as he tallied his first collegiate goal. Kirby Freeland (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS) was credited with an assists. Willard, who played the second half, and Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS), who played the first half, combined for the shutout.
